Thanks to all of you for your comments in the guestbook, they are much appreciated. The baseboards are made of 18mm chipboard, which i would not recommend as its a little to thick for fitting point motors etc, a lighter plywood would be much better!

Nice web site ;)

Im very new to all this DCC and Sound stuff, its got me kick started into model trains after 25+ of not bothering.

Got myself 3 sound engines now and a rake of intermodal wagons, just picked up my malcolms class 66 with hows sound today (Very early xmas present from the better half)

Im very pleased to see this layout in the same style of loft as myself (modern loft) seems the older houses have BETTER loft space....
What is your base board ??? is it t&g flooring ?

thanks

Hi again Bondy,

What manufacturer, colours, gauge and mixture of ballast do you use? How do you get such a realistic effect with it??? It looks great, real life-like! Fastline 66 looks real sweet too.

cheers

Ayup Bondy

I'm planning a layout based on the few engines I've had in boxes for years, mainly BR steam. So, I'm thinking scottish region, vaguely based on the old strathmore mainline between Perth and Forfar. However, I've never attempted a proper layout before and my attic looks just like the photo of yours in The Begining, only full of stuff. So, presently, like Mr Tweedie from the Chicken Run, "it's all in me head!"

Cheers

Thanks for your reply Bondy. I appreciate the answers to my questions. Looks like I will have to purchase a Heljan class 58 then! I will no doubt have more questions for you soon! Once again, you have a fantastic layout!

Hello
Thanks Kenny for your positive comments much appreciated, Hornby 60's are my favorite loco, and 66's are great also! The 58 is made by Heljan, it is so far been very good with smooth running and powerful haulage. The ballast was layed and glued down with PVA glue and water mix, using a paint brush to get the ballast brushed in between the sleepers before hand. The layout is far from finished but hopefully things can progress in the next few months.

Hello,
Brilliant layout and detailing and I love your excellent choice of locos, especially the bachmann 66 and hornby 60. What make is your EWS 58, how good is this models performance, and where do you buy your locos from? Could I be a pain and also ask what make is your ballast and your technique for laying it?
Thanks a lot for your help with these questions, I really appreciate your time in answering these, Im building a layout myself, starting with an engine depot using similar locos to yourself. i love this hobby, especially creating the layout!

Cheers

At last! Someone building a layout in the same type of attic as me! It's looking good, what is the silver sheeting you've used to insulate and where do you get it?
Cheers.
